What Is Generative AI (and Why Everyone Talks About It)

You've probably seen AI-written stories or AI-drawn pictures online. That's called generative AI — AI that creates brand-new things instead of just recognising existing ones.

Here's the trick: it has "read" an enormous number of stories and "looked at" an enormous number of pictures. It learned the patterns of how sentences flow and how images are shaped — then it remixes those patterns into something new.

It's a bit like a chef who has tasted thousands of dishes and can now invent a new recipe by combining flavours they've learned, rather than copying one dish exactly.
